COULD IRAOLA PLAYING SEXY FOOTBALL RESULT IN RELEGATION - Brighton 3-1 AFC Bournemouth - Final Word
AFC Bournemouth today travelled to Brighton & Hove Albion - Sunday 24th September 2023 - and were beaten 3-1 against the Seagull's at the Amex despite Dominic Solanke giving the Cherries a head start.
Despite a controlled and excellent first half, we went in at 1-1 after a mistake between Milos Kerkez and Neto at the back and a lack of communication. However should we have been further ahead? And did the Seagulls play badly (spoiler - they did not, we were just better in that first half).
Second half however, despite the insistence on the sexy football, Mitoma destroyed AFC Bournemouth's chances of travelling back to Dorset with a result after 16 seconds and then further on added to his tally.
So question has to be - is Iraola's tactics working? Yes we have had a very difficult start to the season HOWEVER there have been times we should have been further ahead in games and have failed to do so. And today, we played so well in that first half and controlled possession but have come away with nothing.
And where does David Brooks fit in?
Would our fans who were critical of Gary O'Neil be happy with playing this style but getting nothing from Everton, Wolves and Burnley in October or would they be happy to play the ugly football like Gary got us doing and get, potentially, 9 massive points.
Many teams have been relegated playing a beautiful style of football and AFC Bournemouth would not be the first or last if it happened to us doing this. So what is Andoni's Plan B or Plan C.
Are the players getting used to his style still and need more time adapting or did he get lucky at Rayo Vallecano and now is getting found out in the Premier League. Lots of questions to be asked after this one but hopefully an instant response against the Gunners next Saturday.
See you against Arsenal and lets hope for a good performance, the errors to be corrected and maybe even a positive reponse!
