- Considering the Sacrifices: Following Jesus often requires giving up things that are valuable to us, such as comfort, wealth, relationships, and even personal desires. It means acknowledging that discipleship involves making personal sacrifices for the sake of the Kingdom of God.
- Evaluating the Commitment: Discipleship is not a temporary or half-hearted commitment. Jesus calls His followers to take up their cross, meaning they must be prepared to face challenges, endure suffering, and make Him their priority above all else (Luke 9:23). Counting the cost means understanding that this is a lifelong, all-in commitment.
- Understanding the Challenges: The Christian path is often described as narrow and difficult (Matthew 7:13-14). Following Jesus may lead to opposition, persecution, and hardships. Counting the cost means realizing that the road to eternal life is not easy, but it is worth it.
