Countdown To Alpha

Delta strain is now morphing into Beta meaning we are counting down to the first letter of the Greek Alphabet i.e..  Alpha instead of upwards into Gamma, the fourth letter. There is nowhere else to after Alpha, so is it the mother of all variants which cannot be stopped?
