“Jesus calls his followers to adopt counter-cultural values towards the weak and vulnerable.”
Followers of Jesus who take his teaching seriously will find themselves adopting counter-cultural values that often make them stand out. There are perhaps no more obvious places where this is true than in our approach toward the weak and vulnerable. In this passage, Jesus addresses his followers' approach to marriage and children.
ABOUT THIS MESSAGE
Christians claim that Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords, and they look and pray for the coming of his kingdom on earth as in heaven. Yet every year that goes by, the world seems to grow worse and worse and drifts farther away from God. Are the people of God naïve or foolish for hoping for a kingdom we can't see? During this series through Mark's Gospel, we will see that God's kingdom is coming and is already here, but it is hidden by the same suffering and humility that characterized Jesus's life.
