Counting the Days
September 3, 2017
Please turn in your Bibles to Psalm 90
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
Joshua 1:8 (KJV)
“saw-kel” (sakal): translates “success” (1x),
“understand”, or “understanding” (17x), “wise” or “wisely” (18x)
Biblical success is more about what we are becoming
10 The length of our days is seventy years—or eighty, if we have the strength;
yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
12Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:10, 12
“Teach us to make the most of our time,
so that we may grow in wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 NLT
NEW MATH: making our days count
1. Add (+): count your blessings
App: before you go to sleep write down three things from your day for which you are grateful
Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love
and His wonderful deeds for men. Psalm 107:31
2. Subtract (-): minus your regrets
App: practice, “I’m sorry. Will you please forgive me?”
“Then I acknowledged my sin to You
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions
to the LORD”—
and you forgave
the guilt of my sin. Psalm 32:5
3. Divide (÷): break sorrows into parts
App: 1 burden shared = ½ burden
“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it…”
1Corinthians 12:26
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:2
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:38-39
…the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command:
“Love your neighbor as yourself. Galatians 5:15
4. Multiply (X): compound God’s grace
App: we multiply grace by giving it away
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever
believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
What is God’s Spirit speaking into your life today? How must you respond?
