The country and place precinct explores the connections that link Dookie campus with Indigenous knowledge, arts and activities. Come and feel a possum skin cloak, listen to Indigenous poetry, and play a game of Weme.


Understand the rich culture and history of the Dookie community and the connection between country and the arts. Play traditional Indigenous games with the Academy of Sports and Health Education staff and students and understand more about Dookie’s Indigenous Seed Bank.


CLAY TURTLE-MAKING WORKSHOP: Learn how to make a clay turtle with local artists and discover Indigenous links.

JEWELLERY-MAKING WORKSHOP: Learn how to make traditional jewellery.

FISHING AND BIRD NET WEAVING: Learn how to create traditional woven products.

STORY TIME: Have a yarn with the Wilin team and hear more about the importance of Country, possum skin cloak-making and emu feather skirt-making.


SIGNS AND SYMBOLS WORKSHOP: Learn how to read a story told using ancient Aboriginal signs and symbols and create your own story piece. Time: 12.00pm and 2.00pm Where: Kaiela Arts (Country and Place)

POETRY DEEP LISTENING WORKSHOP: Discover how words can express the significance of Country. Time: 12.30pm and 2.30pm Where: The Wilin Centre (Country and Place) INDIGENOUS BUSH TUCKER COOKING DEMONSTRATION: Time: 12.00pm and 2.00pm Where: Wolithiga Wares (Hungry Harvest)
