For a number of years Newton had lights on The Jasper County Courthouse. Then, in the 80's the Board Of Supervisors decided they were too expensive to run and maintain. They were replaced with less expensive and, shall we say, less impressive lights. Then a group of local Newton folks, headed by Don Knight had the idea to bring back the original Jasper County Courthouse lights. In this podcast I speak with the son of Don Knight, Steve Knight who continues the tradition of keeping the courthouse lights glowing brightly during the holiday season with the help of many others. In this podcast Steve tells us the history of how the Jasper County courthouse lights were brought back and what that group of folks had to do to get the lights back up on the courthouse. He also tells us how much money has to be raised annually to get the lights on the courthouse and how they get the lights on the courthouse.
