We have had many clients reach out to us in regards to their businesses and how to respond to the COVID-19 Relief Acts. Most employers want to keep and take care of their people. Being informed about these Relief Acts will help you make better business decisions in the uncertainty we are facing. Understanding these relief acts will help you retain your workforce and become less vulnerable to the uncertainty of the economy. "Do I have to Keep Employees Employed?" "What Steps Should I Take With My Employees Affected By COVID-19?"
FOR BUSINESS WITH 50 OR MORE EMPLOYEES: According to the Family First Corona Virus Response Act, all Corona Virus testing is to be covered in your health plan for your employees. This plan requires covered employers to temporarily expand FMLA protection and benefits to employees who have been employed for 30 calendar days and need to leave as a result of school closures or child care providers closures.
Covered employers must provide paid sick leave for employees that are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and have been quarantined. This also applies to individuals who are caring for an individual with COVID-19. 80 hours of sick leave must be given to full-time employees. For applying these extended FMLA rules to employees, your business will be provided a refundable payroll tax credit. If you have any questions about your business's next steps, regarding the relief acts or small business loans, please reach out to us for help!

FOR BUSINESSES WITH LESS THAN 50 EMPLOYEES: You do not have to follow the provisions suggested in the Relief Acts if the provisions made will jeopardize the viability of the business. If you cannot afford to keep your employees on, you will have to let them take a temporary leave. Reach out to us with any questions or concerns regarding these updates.
