COVID hospitalizations hit lowest level since June

Listen Later

Henderson County Judge Wade McKinney started tracking the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in the region on June 28, 2020. On that day, there were 58 hospitalized COVID patients in the Trauma Service Area (TSA) that includes Henderson County. (*These numbers are for the region, not just Henderson County. See explanation below.)

That was the lowest level of hospitalizations for the past nine-plus months, but no longer. The number of people hospitalized for COVID in our region today (April 8) was 56.

During this week's podcast, McKinney and I discussed the current status of COVID in the region, including vaccinations.

You can listen to a short clip of that above, or the whole discussion below starting at the 17:24 mark.

*Texas separates the state into 22 regions called Trauma Service Areas, or TSAs, for hospital data. Henderson County's region is designated TSA-G and includes Tyler/Longview. TSA-G includes about 960,000 people. The 15 percent is important because it is the level that defines "high hospitalizations" in any TSA.
