About The Speaker:

Eva Ding

Often humorously likened to an inflatable tube man onstage because of her enthusiasm and physicality, all flutist Eva Ding ever wants to do is imbue in her audience the same sense of joy and richness that music brings to her. Most recently, Eva returned to her hometown of Auckland and gave the New Zealand premiere of a new, orchestral arrangement of Claude Bolling’s “Suite for Flute and Jazz Trio”. Her most interesting gig to date, however, has to have been when she was the opening number for pro-wrestler, Orange Cassidy, at an Independent Wrestling TV match.

In recognition of her potential as a performer, Eva has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and is a current fellow of bespoken. She has performed alongside soloists from the Metropolitan Opera, and with the United Nations Chamber Music Society and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. In 2017, Eva made her NYC concerto debut with the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra performing Honegger’s 'Concerto da Camera' and was invited back in 2019 to make the New York premiere of Tailleferre's 'Concertino for Flute, Piano, and Chamber Orchestra'.

Shanghai-born and Auckland-raised, Eva completed a Master of Music with Robert Langevin, Principal Flute of the New York Philharmonic, and is now based in New York. Prior to that, she gained her Bachelor of Music with First Class Honors from the University of Auckland.
