Publisher's Summary:
Dick Coward is an ordinary chap in extraordinary circumstances. World War II's answer to Flashman, only much more honourable Dick's a Coward by name but not by nature. Storming the Normandy beaches with the green berets of 47 (RM) Commando, Coward is protected by his long-suffering batman (and head groom to his estate) Price, for whom *noblesse oblige* died long ago at Passchendaele. But there are worse things than war, not least the horrific possibility that the family estate might fall into the hands of Cowards ghastly, undeserving brother. Only by amassing sufficient military glory to appease his father and living to tell the tale can Coward guarantee that justice prevails.
Critic Reviews:
"Tempered by the carnage of war, Dicks antics have more meat and less sauce than those of his antecedent Flashman." (Financial Times)
"Extremely funny... very moving. The research is exemplary, and like the best historical fiction, woven seamlessly into the narrative. Truly compelling." (Sunday Telegraph)
Members Reviews:
Great fun to listen to, well written as well.
I thought this book was great fun to listen to. Lots of action and plenty of history with the main character happening to be wherever the main events were happening. If you like historical fiction, and would like something a bit better written and faster moving than most, you'll love this. The other book (Coward at the Bridge) is also a lot of of fun.
Ok but I may have missed the point
This book is interesting and has lots going on. It so nearly is very good and funny, but it doesn't quite make it. Not sure if its meant to be funny, or is told seriously and is funny by chance.
exellent listen
The main characters are Lt Coward and Sgt Price and their antics during the Normandy landings. History and humour all rolled into one. One of those listens you have trouble putting down. I would recomend it to anyone and can't wait for more to become available
