Listen Later

Welcome to the next episode of Cozy on up in NC Cardinal! Each episode is a journey through a Cozy Mystery theme or author available in NC Cardinal. This episode is looking at cozy mysteries nominated for an Edgar Award.

Next month is the announcement of the Edgar Award winners. The 76th Annual Edgar® Awards will be celebrated on April 28, 2022 . Nominees for the best of the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction and television published or produced in 2021 were announced on January 19, 2022, on the celebration of the 213th anniversary of the birth of Edgar Allan Poe. But while we have some time left, let’s check out a couple of the cozy mysteries that have been nominated. https://edgarawards.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/2022EdgarNoms.pdf

  • Rhys Bowen, The Venice Sketchbook.

  • Katherine Cowley, The Secret Life of Miss Mary Bennet. - not available in NC Cardinal, so wasn't able to review it.
  • Callie Hutton, The Sign of Death.

  • Tracy Gardner, Ruby Red Herring.

    • Elizabeth Penney, Chapter and Curse.

      • Well, reviewing these 4 was certainly a different outcome than I expected. I know understand better why Rhys Bowen’s books check out so frequently at the library, as she is a good author. But, technically, since it wasn’t a cozy mystery, but just a historical mystery, it’s out of the running for my list of winners. If it was in the running, I’d have a hard time deciding…but here's my opinion on who should win the The Simon & Schuster Mary Higgins Clark Award:

        1. Chapter and Curse
        2. Ruby Red Herring
        3. The Sign of Death
        4. ...more
