Crafting The Perfect Open World Game

Listen Later

This week, we are building our own open world game! By taking various elements of different games in the genre, each of us put together what we think would be the next big event in video games. Want to build your own? These are the categories!

  • Story (not the exact story, unless you want it to be. It can be a story like or comparable to, share the same structure, or just be the vibes of)
  • Combat System
  • World/map/location
  • Characters/NPCs
  • Side Quest (again doesnt have the be exact, can just be structure or vibes)
  • Collectibles
  • Mini games
  • Traversal
  • Aesthetic/graphics
  • "It" factor. A unique thing about the game that sets it apart from other games in the genre (e.g. nemesis system in Shadow of Mordor, base takedowns like Far Cry, etc.)

And if you'd like, you can utilize 1 wildcard pick. This would be pulling from 1 singular game that doesn't fall within the open world genre. So maybe you want the story vibes of something like Super Mario 64, or the music from Persona 5. Something that you think would fit so well it doesn't matter it's not technically an open world.
