Scripture:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” — Psalm 51:10
What do you do when trying harder isn’t enough?
In this episode of Digging Another Well, we look at one of the most honest prayers in all of Scripture—and what it reveals about the kind of transformation God desires to do in us.
There are seasons when we recognize something isn’t right. The same patterns keep showing up. The same distance keeps returning. We try to fix it with more effort, more discipline, more resolve… but nothing seems to truly change.
David found himself in that exact place.
After being confronted with his sin, he didn’t ask God to help him do better. He didn’t promise to try harder. Instead, he prayed something far deeper:
“Create in me a clean heart.”
That word create is intentional. It’s the same word used in Genesis when God created something out of nothing. David wasn’t asking for improvement. He was asking for transformation—something only God could do.
This episode is a reminder that spiritual growth is not just about effort. There are moments when what we need goes beyond discipline and into divine work.
If you feel stuck… if your own effort has reached its limit… you may be closer to breakthrough than you think.
Because that is often the moment where God begins something new.
In This Episode
Reflection Questions
Closing Encouragement
God is not asking you to fix yourself.
He is inviting you to bring Him what you cannot fix.
And when you do,
He creates what you could never produce on your own.
