Seven Pillars of Life
When thinking about growth, I think about life having seven pillars. We have family, health, finance, job, faith, friendships, and our downtime. These seven things are the most important in our lives. We often forget that we need to be growing in each one and growing them all together. This way we have a more balanced life.
When we think about spiritual growth, we tend to only focus on our faith, but really, if we are growing in our spiritual life, we are growing in our family, our health, and so on.
The Importance of a Balanced Life
Zig Ziglar once said, “You are going to be dead a lot longer than you are going to be alive.” If we are blessed, we get maybe 60-80 years here on this earth, but once we die, we live for eternity. There is no counting time in heaven. Therefore, our faith is the most important part of life, and that faith will be the foundation for our lives. Having a strong faith will make balancing everything else in our lives, much easier.
Now, I recognize one part (faith) is more important than the others. We must have priorities, but so many people think they can have a balanced life without having all seven pillars balanced. We cannot have a balanced life while only focusing on our faith; that is just not how it works.
As we go along today and in future episodes, we will start to see more clearly the importance of having a balanced life, how each one of these things relate to one another, and how to truly achieve balance within our lives.
Remembering God’s Promise when having a Balanced Life
As Christians we know that if we obey the gospel and live for Christ, we have that promise of eternity with God. We are the only ones capable of keeping us from living our lives in a way to receive that promise.
God wants us to be there, and Satan does not want us to go there, but WE are the ones who get the deciding vote. It all comes down to what we really want.
Some people give everything up for their jobs, to chase the money. Some people give everything up for their friendships, for their family, and so on. We should be giving everything up for our faith; that is what is important.
How do we determine that faith is most important thing? The most important thing is what will last the longest. Everything else can fail: our jobs, our friendships, etc. But God will never fail us, He will never leave. Nothing should come above Him, in our lives. Understanding this is the key to a balanced life.
Making Sacrifices in Our Lives
Our faith takes sacrifices, sometimes the people in our lives choose a life without God and we must make a choice, will we choose them and their worldly views or will be stay true to God and be with Him.
This life shapes us into who we are, and we get to determine that not because we get to choose what happens to us, but because we get to choose how we react and how we live our lives.
Having the right priorities and including ALL of the pillars of life will help us find balance and bring us to a better relationship with God. Do you need help putting these things together?
