Michelangelo’s “Statue of an Angel” (1494–1495) is carved from a single block of marble and displayed in the Basilica of San Domenico in Bologna. When asked how he created such a masterpiece, Michelangelo famously said, “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.”
