Simosuchus was a small crocodile-like animal whose teeth and jaws indicate that it ate plants rather than the meat associated with modern crocodiles. Its unusual characteristics show that members of the crocodile group could have very different diets and forms, illustrating the considerable variation found among animals.

A parasitic wasp can manipulate a spider into abandoning its normal web-building behavior and constructing a special web that protects the developing wasp larva. The spider performs a completely different behavior at the direction of the parasite, revealing an extraordinarily precise biological relationship involving behavior, chemistry, and reproduction.

Random mutations are often presented as the raw material for evolution, yet most mutations are harmful, neutral, or damaging to existing biological systems rather than providing the kind of new information needed to produce fundamentally new forms of life. The remarkable order and complexity preserved in living organisms are therefore better understood as evidence of purposeful design than as the product of undirected genetic changes.
