In November of 2001, Michael Bay with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form created the production company Platinum Dunes in an attempt to carve a piece of the reinvigorated interest in the horror genre. For their first feature they hired music video director Marcus Nispel to modernize a crude 1974 masterpiece. The success of the modestly budgeted release ultimately for better or worse set the stage for what was to follow. On October 17th, 2003 THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE was released.
