In this episode, I will not be arguing for any particular confession of faith. This is about the necessity of confessional statements in general, and the proper use and abuse of these robust confessions of faith.
Every Christian needs to be able to distinguishing between foundational issues and the adiaphora, so that we will each know when to fight for the faith, and when to “maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
In other words, we need to be able to understand the importance of having sound doctrine and a comprehensive systematic theology, while at the same time, being eager to maintain catholicity (with a little “c”) with our brothers and sisters in Christ who may not look anything like us theologically or culturally.
Let’s be honest. We’ve all blown it in these areas. It is easy to lose balance in the age the internet where literally everyone can see social media comments immediately, which often leads us to feeling pressured into responding without taking any time to pause, pray, and respond charitably. This means we all need to grow in these areas to some extent, and we all should be quick to forgive one another, just as Christ as forgiven us.
These are vitally important issues in every age, but especially in our day. For the advance of the kingdom of God, and for the sake of the glory of God which is manifest in the church, you certainly won’t want to miss this episode!
