Publisher's Summary:
What if your darkest sins materialized, seeking your annihilation? And what if your only salvation was to accept the touch of forgiveness from someone who could then claim your soul? This is the terrifying power Reverend Zachary Bright has over the townspeople of Silver Springs, Washington.
In Crescent Lake, Nick Murphy, a mob informant trying to atone for his crimes - and his role in a tragic accident that killed his wife and daughter - is placed into a witness-relocation program and sent to a small, scenic town believed to be the perfect hideout. But from his first day in Silver Springs, he finds himself in a different kind of life-and-death struggle, one where his past sins have come back to haunt him. He and FBI agent Audrey Harper are quickly caught up in supernatural events and bizarre miracles, and must contend with a town besieged by religious fanaticism and an enemy that can raise the dead. And while a ruthless mob assassin closes in on Nicks location, Reverend Bright plans to expand his dark ministry across the country.
Nick and Audrey must overcome their own dredged-up sins and then rally the few residents that have somehow resisted the Reverends influence. They will make a last stand against the whole town; but first, they must confront what rests at the bottom of the nearby lake - the source of the Reverends unholy power.

Great book
Nick is an informant who is sent to the seemingly peaceful town of Silver Springs. All is definitely what it appears to be.You will find many creepy characters ,supernatural happenings and a really great read!
Amazing combination of scifi and a current timeline
This is the third Sakmyster book that I have read. He did not disappoint. I have never read such a skillful intwining of science fictioi with a beleivable current time setting. Using the trait that exhibits how humans can be swept along in ideologies they don't understand but follow anyway just because their neighbors or friends do. Showing just how deeply they can allow others to think for them. I am constantly amazed by this in real life, it's occurrences throughout history and the horror that can result by people just following and not thinking for themselves. Sakmyster captures the phenonmenon so well. It took just a few brave people, one of whom was 'infected' but used his brain independently and to act in order to overcome great adversity. I could not put this book down until I finished the last page.
A Five Star Read
I thought this book was a great read that had me turning pages well into the night. There were so many different elements present, yet they all worked well together. The whole premise of the lake was intriguing, and the explanation was quite satisfying.
I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
