Crisis On Infinite Award Shows
The Academy Awards has given out honors to all kinds of films over the last 91 years since it's inception. Dramas, comedies, war films, westerns, romances, musicals and animation. Horror films and fantasy films have also had their days, although few and far between, in the top spot at The Oscars. Even a few Science Fiction films have garnered nominations in the top categories.
But when it comes to Award Season, each year there seems to be A multi million dollar genre that award shows regularly treat as something less than award worthy. A type of film that typically is viewed as just "popcorn summer fare". A belief held by award show voters that a film which makes hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office each and every year couldn't possible be considered..."art". The dirty word at The Oscars: Comic Book Movies.
At least until recently. Comic book based films have become a genre all on it's own in recent history and they are becoming increasingly harder for The Academy to ignore.
