1 Corinthians 12:1-11
As we continue our PARACLETE series, Pastor Jeremy addresses spiritual gifts in the body. In 1 Corinthians we are told that God has gifted and equipped every believer with certain qualities, talents and abilities in order to build up the church and serve others around them. Maybe you haven't discovered your gifting quite yet. That's ok. But don't let that keep you from seeking or from serving. The truth is, while there are specific gifts, there is only one YOU. God made you unique to serve a unique purpose and a specific need in the body. When we take a step of faith, obeying God and serving others around us, whether we are confident In our ability or not, God will make our gifts known to us. WARNING: Your gifts may surprise you. God loves to grow and use His people in ways and places they could have never imagined...
1.What Are Spiritual Gifts?
What even are these gifts? Do I really have one? Is it just where I'm naturally talented? God will use your talents.. but again, God will use your weaknesses. In those places that you have to depend on Him more.. there are a number of Spiritual gifts listed in the scriptures many more than prophecy, tongues, healing/ miracles. Did you know the gift of generosity is listed among these? or Mercy? or faith? These are not titles to attain these are gifts for us to walk in and use.2.Why Are The Gifts Given?
Spiritual gifts are given to meet real needs in the church and in the world. Plain and simple. "For the common good." It is not for building the platform of an individual. It is for the building up of the church and the service of the community. The pastor of a church is not to be seen as just the most spiritually gifted person in the church. The gifts are not ranked and we are all uniquely gifted by the Spirit. Some for preaching, some for teaching, some for comforting, some for giving etc. All for God's purposes. "A hammer is not better than a screwdriver, they are just different. But they are equally useful in the right hands." 3. How Do I Discover My Gifts?
The body is the complete tool set. We are meant to operate in our gifting everywhere we go. So how do we discover our gifts? Firstly, don't be so focused on the gifts, focus on the giver of the gifts. Secondly, Ask God. Ask Him to show you. AND BE WILLING TO GO. Be willing to do something of spiritual value for the Kingdom of God. Even if you aren't sure you're gifted in that area. God can do much more with your humble willingness than your stubbornness. Again allow God to surprise you. Where is God stirring His passion in you? Listen for His voice, and say yes. Don't let the enemy keep you from walking in your gifts. We love ya church! See ya next time.
