But they are equally useful in the right hands." 3. How Do I Discover My Gifts?The body is the complete tool set. We are meant to operate in our gifting everywhere we go. So how do we discover our gifts? Firstly, don't be so focused on the gifts, focus on the giver of the gifts. Secondly, Ask God. Ask Him to show you. AND BE WILLING TO GO. Be willing to do something of spiritual value for the Kingdom of God. Even if you aren't sure you're gifted in that area. God can do much more with your humble willingness than your stubbornness. Again allow God to surprise you. Where is God stirring His passion in you? Listen for His voice, and say yes. Don't let the enemy keep you from walking in your gifts. We love ya church! Acts 1:8Galatians 5:16-26Last week we began to talk about Spirit baptism. What it is, why we should seek it, what Jesus said about it, the initial evidence. This week we continued our study on Spirit baptism but we dove into the enduring evidence of the Holy Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit in our life. If Tongues are the initial evidence of Spirit baptism the fruit is the enduring evidence. People can fake the initial evidence, but you can't fake the fruit of the Spirit. You either have it or you don't. You are either allowing the Spirit of God access to everything in your life, or you're not. 1.What is the purpose?What is God wanting and meaning to do with us once we are full of His Spirit? Why is he filling us? There is a purpose. There is a mission that is being fulfilled. Acts 1:8 reads "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses." Jesus didn't tell the disciples to go right away. He told them to wait. Because He knew they couldn't fulfill the mission in their own strength. The Holy Spirit empowers us to speak truth boldly, to love deeply, to persevere faithfully, serve sacrificially, and pray supernaturally. All things we could not do in our own strength. 2.What does this look like?In the book of Acts, tongues are present when people were filled with The Spirit. We can't just brush over this fact. On Pentecost, at Cornelius' house, the Ephesian believers. Tongues are seen as the initial evidence. However, as we desire the gifts and works of the Holy Spirit we must remember, this initial evidence is not the finish line - it's the starting gun. Tongues are not the ultimate proof of the Spirit's work in you. An object lesson we can use to help us better understand this filling of the Spirit is that of a sponge being squeezed so that all the air is forced out (desires of the flesh), being completely submerged in the water (the Holy Spirit), and released in order to become completely saturated with the water. This is baptism in the Spirt. The idea here is that God doesn't want you half full. He desires you to be overflowing. And while this experience can happen in a moment it's meant for a lifetime. How we live everyday this Spirit baptism is to be clearly seen as we "walk in the Spirit." 3.How do we walk this out? Who can receive this baptism? Acts 2:39 - "This promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far off..." It's for everyone because Christ is for everyone. When one puts their faith in Jesus the baptism in The Holy Spirit is available to them. How do we receive? ASK. Luke 11:13 - "How much more will the Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" SURRENDER. Lay down your control. The Spirit fills empty vessels. BELIEVE AND RECEIVE. Step into His promise by faith. EXPECT OVERFLOW. Whether it's tongues, joy, power, tears or all of it, expect Him to move! How do we stay filled? The truth is we leak. That's ok, Holy Spirit can fill us again and again. In fact, He means to. We need to remember to allow Him to and to ask Him to. Daily prayer time, worship that turns your heart toward God, intentional Bible reading in expectation of Him speaking through His word, and community with other believers. This good news friend. Holy Spirit is ready. Are you? We love you church! We can't wait to see you again next Sunday.

To base our theology on our own personal experience rather than seeking what the Bible tells us is available in Christ is to throw the baby out with the bath water. The Bible instructs us to eagerly desire the gifts of the Spirit. But we desire the gifts of the Spirit only because we so love and desire the giver of the gifts. You cannot receive the gifts apart from the giver. All that to say, operating and living in the fullness of the Spirit of God is what God has always meant for the church. And it is less about us getting more of God, and more about God getting all of us. If you are in Christ, you have the Holy Spirit.Do not let anyone tell you that if you haven't experienced Spirit baptism and spoken in tongues then you are not full of The Holy Spirit, or you are not saved. If you have received Christ you are a new creation full of the Holy Spirit. What we see in Acts should make us excited. God has more for us. God has more for you. Baptism in the Spirit is available today. A complete immersion into the Spirit of God. The overflowing of the Holy Spirt in you, He pours over you and into you and spreads all around you and throughout your life. When we se this happen in the book of Acts, there is the initial evidence of tongues and tongues are present in the church there after. But the point is not to speak in tongues. It is to be so full of the Holy Spirit that your life and your ministry become so empowered by the Spirit of God that you begin to continually operate and depend not on your own ability but on the fullness of The Holy Spirt. In the book of Acts, The Spirit filled believer is a normal believer.In your prayer time we encourage you to ask God if you are living in all that He has for you. Remember, Jesus is the treasure of our life. Draw near to Christ and eagerly desire all that He has for you. Jesus called Him the "Paraclete" a greek word meaning Helper, Comforter, Advocate. Literally the word translated to, "the one called alongside to help".Is The Holy Spirit our Paraclete today? Jesus didn't intend for the Holy Spirit to be a mysterious idea to us. But rather a constant companion who we "walk in step with" (Galatians 5:25) every day. Jesus said " He will teach you... He will remind you... He will guide you..."1. The Holy Spirt is a PersonIn our culture today we think as spirit as vague or impersonal - like wind or electricity. But the Holy Spirit is a divine Person, not a mystical force. You can't have a loving relationship with a force. But you can have a relationship with a Person. The Spirit of God has an intellect, emotion and a will. You can walk with, talk to and be led by the Holy Spirit because He is a Person. Do you know the Holy Spirit personally?2.The Holy Spirt is GodThe Holy Spirit is not just God's sidekick - He is God. Scripture tells us the Holy Spirit is Eternal (Hebrews 9:14), Omniscient (1 Corinthians 2:10), Omnipresent (Psalm 139:7-8) and All-powerful (Luke 1:35). He's included in the Great Commission: "Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19). He is present from Genesis to Revelation in the Bible. He is not an invention of God or a New Testament/Christian idea. 3. The Holy Spirit is Present and ActiveThe Holy Spirit did not retire after Pentecost. He never stopped moving after Acts 28. In John 16:8-15 Jesus said that He would "Convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement. Guide believers into all truth, reveal Christ and glorify Him and speak what the Father is saying." We need to remember that the Holy Spirit doesn't just want to be limited to a certain part of our lives but He wants to empower our parenting, lead us through conflict, comfort us in grief, speak truth in our confusion and embolden us to witness for Christ.We can know the Holy Spirit. We were always meant to. Start the conversation today. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Himself to you - not as a concept, as a companion. We love ya church, can't wait to see you next time! God has so much for us all, if only we would trust him to go with us into the uncertain, uncomfortable and perhaps undesirable places and situations. With God all things are possible. 1.Be built up in your faithJude tells us to build ourselves up in our most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. Like a fisherman, this means doing the work in order to be prepared, having done the research of where the fish most likely will be, knowledge of the species of fish and their dietary habits, having and utilizing the right equipment, tackle, nets, etc. Being well equipped is a spiritual necessity in our faith journey as well. Being equipped with God's word, operating in His strength, allowing the Holy Spirit to move in high pressure moments. As mature followers of Christ we must be willing to do this.2.Save Others"save others by snatching them out of the fire;" (Jude 1:23) This language "snatching out of the fire" stirs up feelings of immediate danger and rescue. There is urgency in the mission we've been given. Time is running out. The fire is burning and people are dying. We cannot stand idly by as they do without sending out to them the life saving message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our faith was never just for us. We are to do this with mercy and patience for others, it is not for us to judge but for God. Jude also tells us to hate the things of the flesh that do not fulfill like the higher things of God.3.Be a Witness / Be the LaborerTo be a witness simply means to proclaim what you have seen. Don't overcomplicate it. But don't shy away from the fullness and responsibility of it. Let your light shine for all to see. Share your story with others. Secondly, be the laborer. You glorify God by serving others. If you don't see Christ in the needy than you will not see Him at the altar. Every Christian is called to serve and there are so many opportunities.
