We explore the nature of bitterness, drawing heavily on the biblical examples of Naomi and Job. We define bitterness as a harmful response to grief, stemming from wrongly blaming God or others for life's hardships. We outline several symptoms of bitterness, including negativity, inability to love, and self-righteousness, ultimately suggesting that it can even lead to self-harm. Finally, we offer paths toward healing, emphasizing a renewed focus on God, reliance on scripture, repentance, and extending compassion to others.
