Wanta Jampijinpa, his father Jerry Jangala Patrick and Marc 'Monkey' Peckham are on the last stage to finish Crown and Country, a transcendental, reflective and deeply enveloping body of work to be released worldwide via ABC Music and French label Akuphone on 1 August 2025. The film shot by filmmaker James Gillot, with support from filmmaker Jeff Bruer, will see its debut screening as part of Darwin Festival’s opening weekend, before travelling to Melbourne to screen as part of the interdisciplinary art festival Now or Never in late August.
Wanta and Monkey Marc took some time out when they passed through Katherine to chat with 8CCC's Kate Lyons- Dawson about the journey this has taken and what it means to be ready to share it. At the heart of Crown and Country is the voice of Wanta Jampijinpa Pawu-Kurlpurlurnu, from the desert community of Lajamanu in the north Tanami, a critically important figure in contemporary Warlpiri philosophy and research, a leader in cultural education and community-based art, and an international ambassador for Warlpiri culture.
