On this playoff episode of Crusaders Pregame, hosts Zach Marks and Dawson Petryshen recap the two games at the Randy Rosen Rink, and look ahead to game five in Fort McMurray.
Game three became a shootout very quickly, as four first period goals from the Mob gave them a healthy cushion. Sherwood Park chipped away at the lead, eventually bringing the game to 4-3 heading into the third. Chris Kobelka regained the two goal lead off of a lucky bounce, Jaron Desnoyers cut the advantage to one but the game ended 5-4 in favor of Fort McMurray.
Looking to continue the momentum, the Cru hosted their second playoff game of the season the following night but unfortunately, to the tune of a 4-0 loss to fall to 3-1 in the series.

Game one was a great challenge for the Cru, as they fell behind 3-1 heading into the final frame but snagged two quick goals and Wyatt Marlow got the overtime winner to take a 4-3 victory. Game two was a different story, as the Cru continued to push but couldn’t take back an early Mob goal and conceded an empty netter to drop the second contest 2-0.
Dawson had an opportunity to chat with Marlow as well as captain Bruce MacGregor on what the team did well and how they can improve heading back home.

Although it didn’t end the way they would have liked, the Crusaders punched their ticket into the postseason in game number 60 against the Drayton Valley Thunder. Logan Hauer snapped a 20 game goalless drought to open the scoring on the powerplay, Sammy May and Stephen Kirkpatrick took a 2-1 lead for the Thunder but the Cru kept fighting. Mitchell Joss tied things up 27 seconds into the final frame, Kadyn Chabot regained the lead yet again, but Joss added another with 45 seconds remaining to force overtime, and with that, grab the lone point needed to clinch a playoff berth. Chabot collected his second of the game to take an overtime victory, but Cru fans and players could rest easy.

Following a 5-2 win over the Bonnyville Pontiacs, the Cru had built some momentum into the home stretch. The Whitecourt Wolverines, however, had other plans as a couple of lucky bounces assisted them in an 8-3 decision. Not ones to stay laying down, Sherwood Park headed out on the road and took down the Camrose Kodiaks by a score of 5-2. Juliano Santalucia and Jace Benvie both tallied their first goals with the Crusaders since coming over from Blackfalds.

After two very tough games against Brooks and Fort McMurray, however winning just the former, the Cru were riding high heading into Bonnyville. A two point performance from new Crusader Wyatt Marlow and veteran Bruce MacGregor propelled Sherwood Park to a 5-2 win on the road.

After a closer-than-it-seemed 3-0 shutout loss against Bonnyville, Sherwood Park looked to rebound against Blackfalds. Unfortunately, a similar story as a three goal third period from the Bulldogs propelled them to a 4-0 decision.
Dawson had a chance to speak with Crusaders head coach and assistant general manager Jeff Woywitka (9:22) on the recent scoring struggles and what needs to change.

Unfortunately, the following night in the Randy Rosen Rink, the opposite happened as Sherwood Park fell 3-0 to the Pontiacs.

Reeling from a 5-2 loss to Grande Prairie, the Cru were hoping to jump on a road-weary Thunder. Game one of the set started off in Sherwood Park’s favor, seeing goals from Mitchell Joss and Michael Lovsin, but two powerplay markers from Hunter Price tied It up and Drayton Valley took the extra point in the shootout. The following night, the Crusaders rebounded and Gus Bylin made 34 saves to ensure a 2-1 win at home.
Dawson had a chance to speak with Bylin and defenceman Cade Christenson ahead of this weekend’s matchups, about additions Lochlan Gordon and Juliano Santalucia and what the team needs to do to continue their momentum.

Looking for a rebound after a 6-1 loss to Calgary the week prior, the Cru came in hot on Saturday. Cale Ashcroft opened the scoring halfway through the first period, as well as Mitchell Joss collecting his 40thpoint of the season with an assist. Zach Brooks tied the game with seven minutes left in the second, but Ashcroft gave the green the lead with 47 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, the offense dried up there as a four goal third from the Storm game Grande Prairie a 5-2 decision.
