Syrian-Canadian filmmaker Amar Chebib began making videos while growing up skateboarding in the Middle East. Over the past decade, he has made various award-winning short films. His most recent work, JOE BUFFALO, is a short hybrid doc executive produced by Tony Hawk and distributed by The New Yorker about an Indigenous skateboarding legend and survivor of Canada’s notorious Indian Residential School system. It screened at Tribeca, won the Audience Award at SXSW, and made the 2021 Awards Shortlists for the IDA and DOC NYC.
