Dominant groups maintain power by shaping what’s considered normal, legitimate, or true. As Quizlet’s anthropology flashcards put it:
“Cultural hegemony is the means by which a dominant group orders beliefs and values so they seem natural and beneficial — leaving the dominant group in control.” source
This isn’t just ideology — it’s emotional architecture. It defines who gets empathy, who gets erased, and who gets framed as a threat.
