Cutting Through the Myths with Tora Spigner

Listen Later

On this episode of the Positively Green Podcast, we’re talking about infant circumcision.

To circumcise or not to circumcise? That is the question that a lot of new parents face when they have a little boy. In some cultures, it’s a given that boys will be intact until a certain age, while in others, they do it at birth. In a lot of other cultures, keeping the penis the way that it came into the world is just fine.

Tora Spigner is a labor and delivery nurse and nursing professor at Los Medanos College. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing from San Francisco State University, her MLS (Master of Liberal Studies in Interdisciplinary Technology, with a concentration in Public and Health Administration) from Eastern Michigan University and her BS in Medical Technology from Michigan State University.

She has worked in labor and delivery for 25 years, the last 17 years at Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley, CA. She also has her own doula practice, Mother's Love Doula, started in 1996. She teaches at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, CA as an adjunct professor in maternity nursing as a lecturer.
