Alfredo Ballí received the death penalty in 1961, being the last Mexican to receive that sentence; however, this was not carried out and he remained in prison for 20 years. After being released in 1981, Ballí opened a new office. He never wanted to give interviews or talk about the crime. His story served as inspiration to create Hannibal Lecter.
