Welcome to the start of my dissertation "The Effects of Streaming on the Consumption of Unsigned Artist Music". This episode looks at what the research aims to achieve, how I went about it, and my motivations to study the topic itself. It also runs through an overview of the conclusion, and where the dissertation fits within the literature on the music industry.

Welcome back! I'm taking it right back to the start with a new series, dedicated to the dissertation I wrote over COVID that inspired me to create this project.

This episode join me the Fort Worth stockyards for an episode deep in Texas. I was blown away by the amazing Brett Patterson, his incredible vocal delivery and strong stage presence showed me a true representation of the alive and well country scene in Texas. Casey Neatherlin accompanied Brett with his music, holding down a groove for over 3 hours during a set, as a person who started on bass, it was interesting to discuss how they manage band dynamics in a solo act. We discussed country music, its roots and role in southern culture, and where they believe it is headed in the future.

In a unique episode, I experience what a singing lesson entails, using techniques and thoughts to help me on my journey with releasing music. Katina is an amazing teacher, using opera vocal techniques to aid a variety of genres with vocal delivery and confidence.

Caroline Marson & Rosie Hill chat with me to discuss foraging, meditation, art pieces and being inspired from wildlife. Using their environment to create safe meditative experiences, they utilise ancient techniques to generate sustainable growing, feelings of peace and the spread of positive energy. We also spoke about the challenges hosting such events, the future of the project & links to wider ideas like feminist geopolitics.

Sean Wyer is a queer pop artist from London in the UK who explores issues such as body image and sexuality, wrapping them in strong vocals and driving 80s instrumentals. We spoke on themes around the process of learning to record, artistic merit, the queer community, iPod Nano, and dropping exceptionalism. Sean suggests a brilliant song off of Muse's album Resistance, the title track sets out a beautiful narrative of fighting for love, one that struck a chord with him and remains in his music today.
