Life is full of choices. What choices have you made? If we compare the choices of Abraham and Lot, we can see how choices can change our lives for the better or worse. In Genesis 12, beginning in the first verse, the Lord gave Abraham a commandment as to what he should do and he immediately chose to do it, and Lot followed him. In Genesis 13, we see that Abraham and Lot had been blessed with wealth and prosperity. But there came a time when choices needed to be made that would significantly affect their futures. The older Abraham wanted to let Lot have the first choice and he agreed to whatever Lot chose. Lot decided to choose the land where he thought he would prosper more. But we all know how that turned out (remember that his wife eventually turned into a pillar of salt, see Genesis 19). Even today, we often must make a choice between increasing our wealth, possessions, and position or listening to what God wants for us. We forget that if we live in the “world” those worldly (sinful) ways will rub off on us. As Christians, we need to choose to do what is right according to God. Abraham followed God and ultimately prospered in his spiritual legacy through Isaac. Lot chose to follow the world and eventually his legacy through Moab and Ammon did not turn out so good. We make choices every day. Payday is someday. Where will the choices that you have made today lead to your future and your descendants future? Are you listening to your Father in Heaven?
