Today we talk about how companies are using data and artificial intelligence (AI) in exciting new ways!
- Butterball, the turkey company, used data to create a turkey you can cook straight from the freezer! They figured out that people really hate thawing turkeys by looking at 50 years of calls to their Turkey Talk-Line and doing market research. Now, they're using AI to plan for future Thanksgivings by predicting how many turkeys they'll need in different places.
- Researchers have taught AI to create images of streets just from the sounds of the street! They used videos from YouTube to teach the AI about different sounds and what those places look like. The AI can tell if it's day or night, sunny or cloudy, and even what the buildings look like!
- Amazon is creating a new AI model that can understand videos and pictures, not just text! This means you could search for things in videos using words. For example, you could type "show me the winning basketball shot" and the AI would find it.
- There's a new AI tool called Sora that can make videos from text descriptions, but some artists are upset about it. They say that companies like OpenAI are using artists' work without paying them and that the AI is just a publicity stunt.
- OpenAI is trying to trademark the name "o1" for a new type of AI that can "reason" and fact-check itself. This means it might be less likely to make mistakes.
- Uber, the ride-sharing company, is now using its gig worker platform to help train AI models. This means people can get paid to do things like label objects in pictures or choose the best responses from a chatbot.
These are just a few examples of how data and AI are being used to create new products, improve our lives, and even change how we understand the world around us!
