Thanking and Praying
Last week we dipped into a few passages in four of Paul’s letters – I always remembered their order by the saying ‘God Eats Pink Custard’ – Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians. This week we are going to spend time in the next five letters of Paul– the ones that follow on from G, E, P, C – all of these books/letters start with the letter ‘T’ - 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus. If you are trying to find a NT book starting with the letter ‘T’ – you know they immediately after ‘God Eats Pink Custard’. – Well it helps me find the books!
Today, we are going to start by looking at the opening words in 1 Thessalonians. This letter is probably the earliest surviving Christian document – certainly pre-dating the Gospels. One of the focuses in this letter is Paul’s desire that the Christians live their lives faithfully in the light of Christ’s return – Jesus’ promised return should call us on to living well, for him.
