Being Sent
Welcome to a new week of devotions. Thanks again for joining with us. This week we are thinking about what it means to be a people who are sent out into the world to live out and talk out our faith. The church is both a gathered community and a sent community. We gather to encourage each other, for worship, for the sharing of bread and wine, to hear God’s word and to respond to His presence through bring out prayers and intercessions to Him. Just as the disciples of Jesus gathered in Jerusalem prior to Pentecost to wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit just as Jesus had promised. The outcome of Pentecost was that the disciples were thrust out onto the streets of Jerusalem – no building could contain what they had experienced. Filled with the Holy Spirit they exploded out onto the streets just as Jesus had asked them too to tell people about the Goodnews they had discovered in Jesus. I think it’s probably fair to say that many Christians prefer to gather rather than scatter.
