Easter Emotions
We are spending April focusing in on themes around Resurrection. And many of our morning reflections are being based in and around the events and words spoken around the resurrection of Jesus.
Today we are going to think about the emotions surrounding Holy Week and on into the resurrection appearances of Jesus. As we look back at these amazing accounts in our gospels we can see that at every turn of events there were strong emotions – and the whole range of emotions too! Joy and celebration – Palm Sunday/Festival time, intense, anger in the Temple courts Jesus confrontations with the leaders/money changers, plotting and scheming behind the scenes, intense promises to be loyal, betrayal, fear, violence, despair, loss. I can well imagine that by the Saturday, in between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, everyone involved was drained, lost – perhaps numb with all that had happened. And then, came more intensity, more roller-coaster emotional experiences – Easter Sunday.
