‘The Two Sons’
This week we are going to reflect on some of the parables of Jesus. To help us do this, perhaps in a fresh way, we are going to use five songs written by Olwen Ringrose on her Parables E.P. Olwen is a friend of mine, that I know through the Resound 12-song-challenge community.
Today's song will help us to think about the parable of 'The Two Sons.' This is perhaps a less familiar parable. These are two sons, who were asked by their father to work in the family vineyard; they both respond differently.
Jesus tells the story in the context of an altercation with the religious leaders. It's the beginning of Holy Week, Jesus entered Jerusalem, riding on a colt. The crowds have welcomed him, shouting "Hosanna to the son!" They lay down palm leaves and their cloaks, welcoming him as King.
Then Jesus goes into the temple and gets angry, scatters the moneychangers. Then, later on in the evening, he returns to Bethany.
