Sports used to be a machine–always happening, always demanding our attention. But the coronavirus shut them down. Jesus lived in Israel when the Romans occupied it, and they were a machine of war and death. They had killed many Jews before him, so it seemed like Jesus was just another casualty to the machine. But he broke the machine through his resurrection, which challenges our understanding of the world. When the machine of sin breaks you down, let Jesus have the last word–“You are beautiful, you are a glorious creation; you are mine.”
