Daily Devo 61 – Distinguishing Fruits

Listen Later

What is the first thing you think about when you hear the word fruit? One of the best fruits out there is cotton candy grapes. Have you ever tried them? If you haven’t, you’re missing out! In the Bible, people talk about fruits and they also use fruit as a metaphor for something much deeper. In Matthew 7, Jesus tells us we can discern spiritual teachers by the fruit they have–really, by the way they act. There’s a great list of good “fruits” in Galatians 5:22-23. People who follow and trust in Jesus have the characteristics listed in those verses. People who don’t are rooted in selfishness and are typically not great people to hang around because of how they treat you and others.

Today’s Challenge: Abide in the source that gives us life and helps us bear the fruit of the Spirit–spend at least 10 minutes in God’s Word. When we know what good fruit looks like, we’re able to look out for those who are coming to pull us away from Christ with bad fruit. When we bear the fruits of the Spirit, we draw from the source of eternal life to bring glory to the one who deserves it all.
