Throughout this conversation, Jesus keeps a strong focus on the purpose of their encounter -- that God is seeking those who will worship in spirit and truth (vv23-24). The woman attempts to deflect the conversation several times but Jesus stays on track. Even her final appeal to a future Messiah who will answer all these questions is something that Jesus turns back to him -- he is that Messiah. In our connections with God and one another, it is easy to lose focus. We are reminded that it is all about Jesus, the living God, who comes even to those of us who believe we are not worthy of God's attention at all!

- What are some of the ways that we decline to make connections with people who are "far" from God? When we do connect, what are some of the ways we get distracted by less important matters? How might a prayer-filled focus on Jesus help to keep you on course?
