At the end of his prayer, Jesus moves beyond himself and his closest disciples to all those who will believe because of their message. In other words, he prays for us! He prays that we would be one, just as he and the Father are one. Apparently, even Jesus must be patient in prayer! In the meantime, are we taking seriously this earnest desire of Jesus?

- Can you recall a time when you experienced a taste of this kind of unity in Christian community? What was it like? What was it that helped that unity transcend all the differences that so often divide us? If it was temporary, why was it so?
- Who do you find it difficult to love in the church, or in your church, today? What help might you need to give you the necessary curiosity, courage, and compassion?
