Jesus is our teacher and lord -- that is true. But Jesus is also our servant, which he proves by washing the feet of the disciples. Every good thing finds its fullness in Jesus and he wants us to share in this ultimate blessing, which is why he calls us to do likewise. Jesus calls us to humbly serve one another, which is the path to both closeness with Jesus and blessing from the Father (v17).

Jesus is a servant. If we are to follow him, we must be servants as well.

- The disciples were shocked by the way Jesus served them, doing the most humble (or humiliating!) of tasks. Almost as shocking, he called them to do the same for one another. What are some of the ways that others have served you in the name of Jesus?

- Is there a way that Jesus may be calling you to serve with him? Perhaps a way that seems almost too radical or humbling to consider?
