As Jeremiah continues to suffer for being faithful to God's calling, he begins to wonder if God has abandoned him. He even compares God's help to a stream that has run dry. God once again answers Jeremiah and reveals that it is Jeremiah who has become distant. Suffering presents us with a choice. We can pull away from God and others, or we can discover God's invitation to draw even closer.

For Reflection:
Jeremiah's pain leads him to feel that God has pulled away, but it is actually Jeremiah who has pulled away (v19).
- Have you seen suffering lead people to pull away from God? Have you seen suffering draw people even closer to God? How have you seen your own life pulled in either direction?
- The fruit of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). How has God used good times or bad to grow these qualities in you?
