Jesus proclaims to his disciples that he is the true vine, we are the branches, and God the Father is the gardener who tends the vine. Some branches fail to produce fruit and are cut away. Some branches produce fruit and are pruned to produce even more. Either way, you're going to get cut! But connection to the life found in Jesus determines the outcome of that pruning.

For Reflection:
All the branches get cut, but the result is determined by whether the branch remains connected to the vine.
- How have you experienced pruning in the past, where God used painful loss to increase your ability to love (i.e. the fruit)?
- Has loss ever led you to disconnect from Jesus, even for a time? What happened and what helped to bring you back?
- What helps to deepen and strengthen your connection to Jesus, the vine? How might God be inviting you to connect more deeply even now?
