In this Daily Devotion for September 7, 2026, Pastor David Balla walks through Psalm 78:70-72, where God takes David from the sheepfolds, a humble shepherd of nursing ewes, and places him over an entire nation, shepherding Israel with an upright heart and a skillful hand.
This devotion follows that picture to the Shepherd-King it was always pointing toward. David, for all his upright moments, was still a human heart capable of failure. Jesus, born into David's own line, calls Himself the Good Shepherd, the one who lays down His life for the sheep entrusted to Him, guiding His people through sin, suffering, and death itself, all the way home. There we find true grace, forgiveness, and salvation, secured completely through His finished work. Through His redemption we are welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven, and in the Lord's Supper the Good Shepherd feeds His flock still, giving His true body and blood for the forgiveness of sins.
Let your mind travel forward to Jesus. He is the Shepherd-King who never fails you, whose heart toward you is always upright, and whose skillful hand is always guiding you.
