The difference is what he did with fear when it showed up: 'When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.' Not 'if' but 'when.' Isaiah records God's direct response to our fears: 'Do not fear, for I am with you.' And John gives us the ultimate solution: perfect love drives out fear.
