Listen Later

“But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts].” (Galatians 5: 16, Amplified Bible)

We all may feel at times like we don’t know what to do. We fear we will do the wrong thing or perhaps our past makes us believe we are prone to bad thoughts and actions.

We don’t have to agree with this state of being, full of concern and fear, of doubt and confusion. Instead, we can choose to listen to God’s guidance and to respond to it. We can conscientiously make it a point to watch our thoughts and let God—perfect wisdom and pure Love—reveal what is right for us in this moment and going forward.

It takes some discipline to walk in this light, to be receptive to the Truth at hand for us. But as we get used to doing it, and see how much freer we begin to feel, it gets easier. This listening walk becomes a habit, something that we do each day because it has become a part of life, just as natural as washing our face or brushing our teeth each morning. We do it because it is essential to our day. This habitual walk with God leads us to daily comforts, wise decisions, and new horizons to explore with grace and gratitude.
