Homily for the Friday after Ash Wednesday
Friday is one of the holy days in which we remember the passion of Christ in his sacrifice on the cross for his love for us, and we pay respect to him by praying, giving alms/sharing and fasting. The gospel talks about fasting where solemnity and mourning should be symbolized but when a joyous moment arises; it should not be accompanied by sorrow. Often times we forget to enjoy the essence of being a person; instead, we contemplate on our sins and failures which hold us back from reality making us forget to be happy and content with what we have. This Lenten season reminds us of the sorrowful passion of Jesus’ sacrifice and by fasting we remember his sufferings and pain he went through and his ascension to heaven would be a glorious and joyous celebration for all his creations on Earth. Today, ask these questions: Are we truly happy with what we have? Am I being true to my desires and faith? Am I who I think I am?
