Listen Later

📖 Scripture

“And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” — Matthew chapter 26 verse 39

💬 Reflection

As we continue toward Easter, we begin to see more clearly the weight of what Jesus carried. Today’s verse takes us into one of the most personal and powerful moments in Scripture—the garden of Gethsemane.

This is where surrender becomes real.

Jesus knew what was coming. He understood the suffering, the rejection, the pain of the cross. And in that moment, He prayed honestly. He asked if there was another way.

“If it be possible, let this cup pass from me.”

That is a real prayer.

It reminds us that bringing our struggles, fears, and desires before God is not weakness—it is part of our relationship with Him. God is not asking you to pretend everything is fine. He invites you to come honestly, just as you are.

But the prayer doesn’t end there.

“Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”

That is surrender.

Surrender is not about giving up—it is about giving over. It is choosing God’s will over your own, even when it is difficult. It is trusting that His plan is better, even when it doesn’t feel easier.

And here is something important: surrender requires strength.

From the outside, surrender can look like weakness. It can look like letting go, stepping back, or yielding control. But spiritually, surrender is one of the strongest things you can do.

Why?

Because it goes against your natural instinct.

You want control. You want certainty. You want comfort. You want to know how things will turn out. You want to avoid pain and move toward what feels safe.

But surrender says, “God, I trust You more than I trust myself.”

That is not weakness. That is faith.

As we approach Easter, this moment in the garden reminds us that the path to victory often goes through surrender. Before the resurrection, there was submission. Before the triumph, there was trust.

And the same is true in your life.

There may be things you are holding onto right now—plans, expectations, fears, or even outcomes you are trying to control. You may be asking God to change a situation, to remove a challenge, or to make a path easier.

There is nothing wrong with asking.

But there is something powerful about surrendering.

Surrender doesn’t mean you stop caring. It doesn’t mean you stop praying. It means you place the outcome in God’s hands and trust Him with it.

It means saying, “God, I don’t understand this, but I trust You.”

It means releasing the pressure to control everything and allowing God to lead.

And when you do that, something shifts.

The weight begins to lift.

The anxiety begins to ease.

The pressure begins to fade.

Not because everything changes instantly—but because you are no longer carrying it alone.

God never intended for you to carry the full weight of your life by yourself.

He calls you to walk with Him, to trust Him, and to surrender to Him.

As you prepare your heart for Easter, remember this: Jesus showed us that surrender is not the end—it is the beginning of something greater.

Because on the other side of surrender is God’s purpose.

On the other side of surrender is peace.

On the other side of surrender is resurrection.

🙏 Prayer

Lord, I come to You today with an open heart. You know my fears, my struggles, and the things I try to control. Help me to surrender them to You. Teach me to trust Your will above my own. Give me strength to let go and faith to believe that Your plan is greater. Amen.
