As a leader, how do you keep yourself motivated?

My colleague, Neeraj Dharmadhikari, posed this question to me.

I believe there are two paths to motivation.

The first path is finding enjoyment in the outcome.

You feel a rush of dopamine when you achieve an outcome. The downside is that you have to increase your achievement level to continue to feel the rush.

The second path stems from having a purpose. If you have a purpose, you enjoy the process. There will be no end to your motivation.

Which path would you choose?
