Unwed motherhood in Victorian England spells the end - your chances of marrying, chances even of working, disappear. Unless you can somehow "disappear" the evidence....
That's where "baby farmers" Amelia and Margaret come in. They'll care for your unwanted infant - for a fee. But what are they really doing with the babies? When the police find dozens of tickets for pawned baby clothes and no evidence of the babies themselves, Amelia and Margaret become wanted women, and a newborn's life hangs in the balance.

She put the baby where????
This definitely is a premise worth expanding. Won't spoil it, but glad about the ending. Was a big disconcerted by the beginning. Seemed very unlike other MeiLin Miranda works. But it all came together in typical fashion, and I'm glad of it. Do expand on these characters!
Oh Yeah!
The storyline kept me guessing (literally) until near the end. First I thought cannibals, then... nope, can't go there. It would spoil the tale.
No typos, punctuation was good, etc. It's short, so just read it already!
Short and awesome
If you have a short commute or coffee break, this is the story to read during. It also has some nice, subtle appeals to things like culture shock.
Fun!
I really enjoyed this story. It was well-written and thoroughly entertaining. I look forward to reading more of MeiLin Miranda's work.
Keeps you guessing!
This was a great short story. Miranda has a knack for twisting and turning your opinions about the characters -- I wasn't sure whether or not their intentions and motivations were honorable until the end. For such a short work, their personalities are very well-developed. Dalston Junction is a fantastic short read, perfect for when you want something small and crunchy without the heft of a novel.
